A 1,750-square-foot, two-story, wood-frame, wood-clad, metal-roof, three-bedroom ski house with garage and sundeck.

The owner wanted an intimate mountain home in which to spend her retirement years. She desired a straight-forward, economical building that also had character. The concept is deceptively simple: a 31-foot-square, gable-topped form with a two-sided, large-scale “bay window” on all four sides. The intrigue is created by the geometry: the “bay windows” form their own 31-foot square, which is rotated 45 degrees and superimposed over the primary mass. The additive nature of the design is enhanced with contrasting exterior materials.
